Finish Types

Nil Exposure

Nil Exposure Finish (No Stone)
This sought-after concrete finish is challenging to achieve. Typically, it is only feasible for freshly poured concrete that adheres to stringent specifications, ensuring a smooth, aggregate-free surface. We collaborate with experienced concreters who specialize in pouring concrete for this finish. The process involves minimal grinding to minimize stone exposure, followed by grouting to fill in any pinholes and cracks, resulting in a refined and smooth surface, ultimately polished to your desired level of shine.

Minimal Exposure

Minimal Exposure Finish (Salt & Pepper Look)

This finish involves grinding the top 1-3mm of the surface, usually with a single pass over the entire floor. Stone exposure varies, with some areas having none and others showcasing varying amounts, depending on the original slab pour. This finish is often chosen for an industrial aesthetic, garages, restaurants, outdoor areas, and more. It’s also the most cost-effective option compared to full stone exposure or nil stone exposure.

Medium Exposure

Medium Exposure Finish (Some Stone Exposed)

This finish involves grinding the top 2-3mm of the surface, usually with a single pass over the entire floor.

Full Exposure

Full Stone Exposure Finish (Full Stone Exposure)

Our most popular concrete finish, this option showcases the maximum amount of stone through the floor. Achieving this look is labour-intensive, requiring multiple passes of grinding (usually 2-3 times) to reveal all the stone, making it a somewhat higher-cost option. The depth of grinding typically ranges from 4-6mm, depending on the slab’s hardness. This finish is favoured for decorative purposes and is frequently employed in homes and showrooms.

Gloss Types

Matte

It might be surprising, but a polished concrete surface has the potential to exhibit a matte finish. This type of finish is popular in spaces such as living rooms or restaurant floors, where a glossy appearance may not be suitable and could pose a risk of accidents.

Beyond its practical advantages, the matte finish contributes to a pleasing rustic texture that complements the natural grey tones of the concrete. It is particularly favored in environments like warehouses or industrial areas, where machinery typically occupies the floor. This option is ideal for those who prefer non-reflective surfaces.

Satin

Are you in search of a surface that doesn’t have an overly shiny appearance but still possesses a subtle natural sheen? If so, opting for a semi-gloss or semi-polished finish would be an excellent decision. Rest assured, it’s not as complicated as it might initially sound.

Some concrete workers refer to this finish as a satin finish due to its low reflection on the surface. Additionally, there are variations in this finish that can lean towards either a flatter or glossier appearance.

Full Gloss

It’s a particularly favored choice for commercial settings like malls or retail stores, where the reflective quality of the floor creates a captivating ambiance. Even in office spaces, high-gloss white or cream polished concrete flooring contributes to an impressive aesthetic.

Furthermore, skilled polished concrete workers have achieved a glass-like effect through meticulous buffing and grinding with the finest diamond bits. Typically, fine diamond abrasive pads with a strength of up to 3,000 grit are employed to enhance the shine of a concrete surface.
