Polished concrete is ground and polished into the slab itself, so the finish comes from the concrete rather than a coating. Grind and seal is ground flat then finished with a sealer sitting on the surface. Polished concrete lasts longer and never needs recoating. Grind and seal costs less up front and is easier to patch.
In most cases, yes, and it is the majority of our work. Existing slabs are ground back, repaired and finished without being replaced. How the aggregate will look once the surface is cut, and whether the slab carries hidden cracks or an old coating, can only be established on site.
Polished concrete suits warehouses with forklift traffic: it hardens the slab and never needs recoating. Epoxy and industrial coatings suit workshops, commercial kitchens and areas exposed to chemicals, oil or washdown, and can be specified slip-resistant. Food processing generally requires a polyurethane cement system rated for steam and thermal shock.
Send the details and a few photographs of the floor through the quote form and we will arrange a time to inspect it. Quotes are free, on site and fixed in writing, and confirm the programme: duration depends on the area, the finish and the cure time of the sealer or coating. You can also email info@totalgrind.com.
