A ground and sealed matte finish that exposes the aggregate without the gloss of polished concrete. For pool surrounds, alfresco areas, driveways and indoor floors where grip and natural texture matter more than shine.
Honed concrete is ground and smoothed with progressively finer abrasives to a soft, low-sheen finish. Unlike polished concrete, which is glossy and reflective, honed is matte, so it cuts glare and holds more grip underfoot. The finish shows the natural colour and texture of the slab, and a penetrating sealer protects it against stains and moisture while letting it breathe. It suits pool surrounds and alfresco areas as readily as indoor floors.
Natural, matte stone-exposed concrete for outdoor and architectural applications.
The existing slab is checked for cracks, unevenness and damage.
Diamond grinders take off the top layer to remove imperfections and set the level of stone exposure.
Finer abrasives refine the surface to a matte, low-sheen finish. Honed work usually runs two to three levels of refinement, not the full polishing sequence.
Cracks are chased and filled, and pinholes grouted where the finish calls for it.
A penetrating sealer goes on to resist stains and moisture while the surface keeps its texture and stays breathable.

See solutionsThe matte surface holds more grip than a polished floor, and an anti-slip additive can go into the sealer. Where a specification calls for testing to AS 4586 we arrange it.
Honing stops at a matte ground finish. Polishing carries on through finer grits to a gloss.
Not with a UV-stable penetrating sealer. Acrylics yellow, so we do not use them on honed work.
